The Multi Purpose Combat Ship are part of the plan to renew the operational lines of the Navy's naval units, decided by the Government and Parliament and launched in May 2015 under the aegis of OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armaments Cooperation).

The combat system configuration is "light" and the ship is highly flexible and modular, with the ability to perform multiple tasks ranging from patrol and rescue at sea to Civil Protection operations.

The patrol boats have a staggered double bow, similar to the rostrum of ancient Roman ships, an engineering solution that allows the unit to reduce wave formation and reduce fuel consumption, increasing its maximum speed (32 knots).
The innovation and uniqueness of these ships is dictated by the architecture of the bridge, which allows a wide view during the course of its operation.
A characteristic element of this type of ship is the Naval Cockpit, a system of Italian design and unique in its kind: it is able to have the ship led by only two operators (PILOT and CO-PILOT) both from the point of view of the Platform and Navigation, and from the point of view of the conduct of operations up to the use of weapons.
